WORLD AIDS AWARENESS WEEK.
World AIDS Day Awareness Week:
There will be events around campus, specifically at Pomona and Mudd, but the Motley will be hosting a film screening and a fashion show and I highly recommend everyone to come. Learn more about this deadly disease or simply come and help out or help others learn more.
December 2nd, 2008 (7:00 - 9:00 PM): Film screening and speaker on HIV/AIDS policy locally and globally. Screening of segments from The Age of AIDS. Afterward, Mike Maher (co-founder of Foothill AIDS Project) will comment on the film and talk about policy in the LA area.
December 3rd, 2008 (8:30 - 10:00 PM): WORLD AIDS DAY AWARENESS FASHION SHOW... a fashion show designed to raise awareness of the AIDS epidemic in the United States. Before the fashion show, students will give a presentation on AIDS in the US and during the show, a slide show of facts and statistics will be played. Attendees will be encouraged to donate food or money to benefit the Foothill AIDS Project. Optional food or monetary donation
i hope to see you all there.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest all is gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain,
So open wide the doorway~
Thanksgiving comes again!

It's Getting Chilly...But We're Just Heating Things Up!
Literally...we're steaming drinks out the WAAAAZOOOO.
At a chilly 58 degrees here in Claremont (a laughable temperature in my hometown of Seattle), all I want to do is cuddle by a fire with a nice thick mug of cinnamon apple cider. DON'T WE ALL! Well, you're in luck. You can just pull on those boots of yours and walk those 4 steps down to the Motley Coffeehouse and get your own steamed cider with our cinnamon syrup. So delicious and sure to soothe away any winter chill. Not only are we heating things up with out steam wands, but with some great events...
This Thursday (October 6th) we've got Zach Galainis performing from 9 to 11 pm and then on October 9th we have an alternative 90s rock band...and don't forget BELAIR performing, of ofourse on October 12th at 7:00 pm and then the very next night Jocelyn Greene will give a relaxing acoustic performance. So much music, just the right amount of time!
Now like I said, I've been in the mood these past few days for a steaming mug o' cider... especially with that crazy thunder letting loose on saturday night, but if you are no cider kid maybe try a nice mexican hot chocolate or mexican mocha and add a little spice to your life. Or even try one of my personal favorites, it even used to be called the Shayna (that was how much I liked it) the Mexican Chai. The Mexican Chai is a delicious, but rich dessert drink with mexican chocolate, chai, steamed milk and topped off with dollop of whip and a sprinkle of mexican chocolate powder...DELISH!
NO NEED TO GET THE WINTER DREARIES...WARM THINGS UP THIS WINTER (and fall) AT THE MOTLEY COFFEEHOUSE!
A SPOOKTACULAR WEEKEND!
HEY EVERYONE!
Hope your all Hallows Eves were FANTASTIC! So I haven't posted in a while, but that isn't to say that the Motley hasn't been BUSY BUSY BUSY... Last Sunday we had an excellent performance from Shakeh and this evening as I type this the much anticipated Mood Swing Acapella group performs.
On Halloween, dressing up was a given and Blues Underground filled the Motley with dancing bodies from 10 pm late into the night. No Doubt it was a truly magical, perhaps haunting? night for all involved.
Below: Blues Brothers, not blue dancing...
Hopefully your night went well too. On campus there were other events like the mighty Trick or Drink over at Harvey Mudd and Harwood Halloween, a crazy parking garage rave great for any costumed college student! Now why am I getting all excited about Halloween events when I should be talking about the Motley? Well, I happen to love Halloween, but its not just that. Halloween is the very preparation we needed for what's coming this week...

ART AND EVENTS!!!
Coming soon to the Motley...our current line up includes some pretty big names! Shakeh (her myspace page) is coming next week on Sunday, October 26th as well as my personal favorite Belaire (Their Website), hosted by the Motley and KSPC coming Wednesday, November 12th on their westcoast tour- it's so exciting.
SO COME TO THE MOTLEY!!!!!!!
Coffee and Pastries and Merch...OH MY!
A lot has been going on with products... some running out of stuff, but we got it and now its mostly just pure amazingness!!! We have this great new coffee from Coffee Klatch called Café Feminino. It is so delicious! I personally can usually only take coffee with lots of sugar and milk (think of a mocha with vanilla syrup and you're getting to my realm), but this coffee was a hit with me as well as the hardcore coffee drinkers. Even better, the coffee is from a collective of more than 725 women farmers in Peru who, with hope for better lives, have come together to grow, harvest, and sell organic, fair-trade-certified coffee and with each cup of fair-trade deliciousness we can contribute to their cause!
Some sad news on the pastry front. We have temporarily stopped selling our mini "Challah for Hunger" challahs, but luckily we're getting some new delicious pastries from local student bakers over at Pitzer - this includes cinnamon rolls and lemon butterfly cupcakes...mmmmagic! Also we still contine to sell our VEGAN COOKIE deliciousness, which come in both oatmeal chocolate chip and chocolate chip peanut butter. How can we forget our gluten-free pumpkin bread, which continues to sell like hot cakes (or hot bread...haha) - so come in quick to get yours!- as well as our distinctive truffle selection ranging from such delicacies as Market Spice to more unusual truffles such as Peanut butter and Jelly and the Taylor~ Just come in and try out some of our great student baker pastries.
Speaking of treats, we recently got in GLUTEN-FREE COOKIES, packaged and delicious these babies are ready to travel!
More merchandise should be coming to the Motley soon. We got back in Cornmugs and Waterbottles and supposed to come in this week, but we were thinking of maybe adding some sweatshirts with a new logo...if you have any ideas don't hesitate to post or e-mail me (Shayna Friedman) -- Just remember it's all for you!
Welcome to the Motley Blog
Hey Friends! This is the first Motley blog entry. We thought we would start a blog to keep all friends of the Motley updated on things such as student bakers and when their products are available, events at the Motley and just general updates.
Since it's the first entry, let me just get everyone up to speed. In case, you missed it, our open went off in style. Our theme, the Wizard of Mot was a huge hit as we played music, screened a the Wizard of Oz in the background, and had a great DJ come in!
So this year we have a new manager position, sustainability and networking manager (Laura Shay currently occupies the position). This position is great because she coordinates with student bakers, activist organizations on campus, as well as with the Pomona farm and maintenance to compost our coffee, food, and cups! Also I am working on fixing up the website to make it more user-friendly and we can try eliminating that paper stuff (think of all the trees...).
